Who We Are

Calvary Chapel is a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We aren’t a denomination, and we aren’t against denominations — we only stand apart from non-biblical teaching that divides the Body of Christ. We are a Christ-centered, Bible-teaching church, and Pastor Jerry teaches verse by verse through the Bible in a clear, easy-to-follow way.

Our purpose is to glorify God, build up the body of believers, serve one another in love and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Above all we want to know Christ, be shaped into His image by the Holy Spirit, and be found faithful when He comes.

Our Pastor & Staff

Jerry Foster

Jerry Foster

Senior Pastor

Jerry came to South Lake Tahoe in August 1991 to plant Calvary Chapel of South Lake Tahoe (CCSLT), after 13 years pastoring Grace Chapel in Fortuna, California. He was ordained in 1978 and holds a bachelor’s degree from Pacific Christian College and a master’s from Luther Rice Seminary.

Before full-time ministry he served as a police officer in Southern California and as a volunteer fireman. Today he is chaplain for the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, Fire Department and Barton Memorial Hospital, and an approved Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) instructor.

Jerry first encountered Calvary Chapel in the early seventies, when Costa Mesa still met in a tent, and studied under Pastor Chuck Smith. He met Diana there in 1976; they married in 1977 and have four children and twelve grandchildren.

Garry Weaver

Garry Weaver

Associate Pastor

Born and raised in San Diego, Garry came to the Lord at 15. He completed Calvary’s School of Ministry (2005–2007), married Ranae in 2006 and moved to Tahoe that fall.

He trained in ministry under Pastor Jerry, beginning with the youth and the local juvenile hall, and was ordained in 2015. Garry and Ranae have three children.

Diana Foster

Diana Foster

Women’s Ministry

Diana has served alongside Pastor Jerry for more than four decades. She came to faith in 1973 and found her way to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, where the two of them later served the youth together.

She loves teaching God’s Word — especially to children and her grandchildren — and leads the Tuesday ladies’ Bible study and the women’s ministry.

Shari Scheib

Shari Scheib

Administration

Shari and her husband Don moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1998, and Calvary Chapel has been their home church ever since — Pastor Jerry baptized them in the Jordan River on their first trip to Israel in 1999.

She has taught Sunday School and ladies’ studies, served at local care homes and VBS, and since 2005 has run the church office: hospitality, volunteers, worship scheduling, sound, and support for the chaplaincy.
